‘Cause she’s just a tight-waisted wiggy eyed flirt

She’ll soon have your land and your pride and your gold

And bury you deep long before you grow old

A four-legged friend, a four-legged friend,

He’ll never let you down

He’s honest and faithful right up to the end

That wonderful one-two-three-four-legged friend

A two-legged hombre is worthless as sand

He’ll smile like a saint with a gun in his hand

He’ll promise to stick by your side like a pal

But he’ll also promise the same to your gal

He’ll never let you down

He’s honest and faithful right up to the end

On tumbleweed land or a long dusty road

Who asks you  no questions?

Who tells you no lies?

He’ll never let you down

He’s honest and faithful right up to the end

By: Jack Elliot

  Rainbow Over Texas

There’s a rainbow over Texas

There’s a sunbeam peeking from behind each cloud

A prairie breeze seems to say out loud

Good Morning to you

There’s a rainbow over Texas

With the sagebrush singing out the way it should

You can’t help feeling just downright good

Good Morning to You

There’s a bluebird high in the branches

Serenadin’ his lady fair

And you know for certain all the dogies are a  flirtin’

Just because there’s spring in the air

There’s a rainbow over Texas

See the skies are clearing and I’m here to say

It’s gonna’ be just a real nice day

Good Morning to You

There’s  a bluebird high in the branches

Serenadin’ his lady fair.

And you know for certain all the dogies are a flirtin’

Just because there’s spring in the air

There’s a rainbow over Texas

With the country side awake and feelin’ great

Everything’s first rate in the lone star state

Good Morning to You

GOOD MORNING TO YOU!

Way Out There

Artists: The Sons of the Pioneers, Roy Rogers, Pete Seeger, Marty Robbins

By: Bob Nolan

       Way Out There

(Trio yodel that sounds like a train whistle)

A lonely spot I know where no man will go

where the shadows have all the room.

I was ridin’ free on the old S.P. , humming a southern tune

when a man came along , made me hush my song

kicked me off away out there.

(Trio Yodel)

So I threw down my load in the desert road

rested my weary legs.

I watching the sinking sun make the tall shadows run

Our across that barren plain

Then I hummed a tune to the rising moon

He gets lonesome way out there

(Trio Yodel)

So I closed my eyes to the starlit skies

and I lost myself in dreams

I dreamed the desert land was a milk and honey land

Then I woke up with a start.

There’s a train coming back on that one way track

Gonna take me ‘way from here.

As she was passing by, I caught her on the fly

I climbed in an open door

Then I turned around to that desert ground

Saw the spot I will see no more

As I was riding away I heard the pale moon say

“Farewell, pal, it sure gets lonesome here”

(Trio Yodel)

As she pulled out of sight, I turned to my right

the left and everywhere

but all I could see was a cactus tree

And a prairie dog playing there

Saw the prairie dog feed on the tumbling weed

That’s his home ‘way out there

Don’t Fence Me In

By: Cole Porter and Robert Fletcher

Artists: Roy Rogers, The Sons of the Pioneers, Bing Crosby, The Andrew Sisters, Willie Nelson

The Oak Ridge Boys, Lorrie Morgan

  Don’ t Fence Me In

Wild cat Kelly, looking mighty pale

was standing by the sheriff’s side

and when that sheriff said,

I’m sending you to jail

wild cat raised his head and cried.

Oh give me land, lots of land under starry skies above.

Don’t fence me In

Let me ride through the wide open country that I love

Don’t fence me in.

Let me be by myself in the evening breeze

And listen to the murmur of the cotton wood trees.

Send me off forever but I ask you please

Don’t fence me in

Just turn me loose, let me straddle my old saddle

underneath the western skies

On my cayuse , let me wander over yonder til I see the mountain rise.

I want to ride to the ridge where the west commences.

Gaze at the moon until I lose my senses,

I can’t look at hobbles and I can’t stand fences,

Don’t fence me in.

Ghost Riders in the Sky

Written by: Stan Jones

Artists: Roy Rogers ,The Outlaws, The Sons of the Pioneers, Riders in the Sky, Johnny Cash

                Ghost Riders in the Sky

An old cowpoke went riding out one dark and windy day,

Upon a ridge he rested as he went along his way,

when all at once a mighty hear of red-eyed cows he saw.

A plowin’ through the ragged sky and up  a cloudy draw.

*(CHORUS)

Their brands were still on fire and their hooves were made of steel,

their horns wuz black and shiny and their hot breath he could feel.

A bolt of fear went through him as they thundered through the sky.

For he saw the riders comin’ hard and he heard their mournful cry.

(CHORUS)

Their faces gaunt their eyes were blurred  and shirts all soaked with sweat.

Their riding hard to catch that herd but they ain’t caught them  yet,

‘Cause they’ve got to ride forever on that range up in the sky

On horses snorting fire, as they ride on hear them cry.

(Chorus)

The riders loped on by him, he heard one call his name,

“If you want to save your soul from hell a ridin’ on our range,

Then cowboy, change your ways today or with us you will ride

A’tryin’ to catch the devil’s herd, across these endless skies.”

Chours:

Yi –  pi –  yi –  ay——–

yi – pi – i   -yo  ——-

Ghost riders in the sky.——-

Some trails are happy one

others are blue.

It’s the way you ride the trail that counts.

Here’s a happy one for you.

(Chorus)

Happy Trails to you, until we meet again.

Happy trails to you, keep smilin’ until then.

Who cares about the clouds when we’re together?

Just sing a song and bring the sunny weather.

Happy trails to you

until we meet again.

Cool Water

Written by: Bob Nolan 1936

Cool Water

All day I faced the barren waste

Without the taste of water….. cool water.

Old Dan and I with throats burnt dry

And souls that cry for water

Cool, clear, water.

*(CHORUS)

The nights are cool and I’m a fool,

each star’s a pool of water…cool water.

But with the dawn, I’ll wake and yawn

and carry on to water.

Cool clear, water.

*(CHORUS)

The shadow’s sway and seem to say

“Tonight we pray for water”…cool water

And way up there He’ll hear our prayer

and show us were there’s  water.

Cool water.

*(CHORUS)

Dan’s feet are sore ,

he’s yearning for just one thing more than water.

…cool water

Like me, I guess, he’d like to rest

where there’s no quest for water

Cool, clear water.

*Chorus:

Keep a movin’ Dan, don’t you listen to him, Dan.

He’s a devil, not a man and he spreads the burning sand with water.

Oh Dan, can you see that big, green tree,

where the waters running free and its waiting there for you and me?

Tumbling Tumbleweeds

Written by: Bob Nolan

Probably, his most famous song, Bob Nolan wrote this song in the early 1930’s as “Tumbling Leaves”.  It was soon changed to “Tumbling Tumbleweeds” and became popular nationwide.      Roy Rogers  and the Sons of the Pioneers used it in many of their earliest performances and recordings. It was also recorded by many other artists such as Gene Autry, Bing Crosby, and Slim Whitman. In 1998 the Coen brothers included it in the score of the film, ” The Big Lebowski”.

Tumbling Tumbleweeds

I’m a rovin’ cowboy, riding all day long
Tumbleweeds around me sing their lonely song.
Nights underneath a prairie moon,
I ride alone and sing a tune.

Chorus:
See them tumbling down,
Pledging their love to the ground,
Lonely but free I’ll be found
Drifting along with the tumbling tumbleweeds.

Cares of the past are behind,
Nowhere to go but I’ll find
Just where the trail will wind,
Drifting along with the tumbling tumbleweeds.

I know when night has gone that a new world’s born at dawn,

I’ll keep rolling along,
Deep in my heart is a song,
Here on the range I belong,
Drifting along with the tumbling tumbleweeds.
